FLASH-POINT BLOGGER: DAG JONAS SKJOELSVOLD

About Dag Jonas Skjoelsvold

First of all I just want to say that I'm honored that a guy riding at a high-recreational level (although perhaps wanting to be more competitive soon) is chosen to be a test-pilot for the "workingman's Zipp's".

And for those who are interested, I am a 19 year old student from Norway, studying mathematics and physics at NTNU in Trondheim.

I ride a Fondriest Alur F.(C+M) frame, with Shimano Ultegra 9-speed and Shimano WH-R550 and Mavic CXP33/30 training wheels.

I have not had the chance to get the wheels out yet, snowy and icy roads have made me spend several hours on the trainer, without the FPs. But the rim-tape is on, and I will soon equip them with Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX tires, black and yellow, to match my bike.

Pictures to come.

I have by now ridden the Flash-Point 60s in most weather- and road-conditions in Norway, and I can tell that you that speed, comfort and value are very suitable and describeable words of these wheels. Having clocked over 6000 km on them, their presentation still looks top notch and the rims are still perfectly true. I'm just getting more and more fond of them. When I once in a while have to use my WH-R550's I'm reminded of how good the FPs actually perform.

The feeling of riding on a very fine set of high-end wheels is just great!
Still hoping to get about a month with outdoor cycling before the winter comes.

Sorry for not blogging recently, but now I'm back on track with my new rear wheel. The weather is still nice here up in the north, had 25 degrees celsius today, and did a 5 hour spin on my FP 60s. It felt great being on them again, there's such a difference in every aspect of racing compared to my WH-R550s.

I'v just let my dad test them, I was a bit worried about his weight (90kg) but the Zipp assured me that the weight limit is 110kg! Anyway, he liked the performance and the new design so good that he's planning to get some for himself.

That's it for now - stay tuned.

Recent Post: Finally!

Sat, 17 Jun 2006 by Dag Jonas Skjoelsvold

The winter is finally gone, and summer is here to stay, at least for a while. What's better than to start of a new season with a pair of brand new 60mm deep carbon wheels? As always we've had a really long and cold winter here in Norway and I have spent several hours on the trainer, waiting to get out and feel the wind in my hair again. Knowing that I had a pair of Flash-Point 60s ready to go made it at least a little bit easier. I had my last exam at the university for this semester today and I'm now looking forward to over two months only riding my bike.

My first impression was how good my bike looked with the high-profile carbon wheels on, almost like a real pro bike! And second, the sound! A sweet rattling sound while freewheelin' and "schwosssh" when pedaling, I can never sneak up on anyone now.

I rode the wheels for the first time with my local cycling club last week, and I got a lot of questions and the guys just stared at the rims, "is it all carbon fiber?", "how did you get those?" and so on. Some of them were so excited that I had to give them a test ride each.

I have now done five rides with the FP 60s, all under windy weather conditions. I thought that with so deep rims that it could be some steering troubles, but that turned out not to be a problem. I will get back with reports on stiffness, acceleration, climbing and so on when I get to ride them more.
